A recent study concluded that preventable medical malpractice errors continue to occur at many hospitals, despite efforts to improve. Types of preventable medical errors include patients receiving the wrong diagnosis, being given the wrong medication or having an operation on the wrong body part. Each of these errors can lead to a catastrophic result - making a patients health or condition worse, potentially leading to a wrongful death.
In addition to doctors and other medical professional acting hastily, which may lead to reckless or negligent medical mistakes, another source of error comes from unsanitary condiions. This can happen when in a situations such as where one patient is receiving dialysis and the units are placed too close and blood from one patient can splatter on to another. This can cause infections and disesases to easily spread.
Unfortunately rather than lessening, the epidemic of preventable medical errors has continued to grow placing patients in harms way. While public awareness of the problem has increased, efforts at making hospitals safer have not stemmed the tide of critical medical mistakes.
