California news reports that a woman is suing a University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) physician and medical team, along with the Board of Regents for alleged medical malpractice. The case comes following the death of the woman’s husband. She asserts that they negligently, carelessly and recklessly, treated the California man, resulting in cardiac arrest and death.
When a doctor nurse of other medial professional fails to follow proper protocol and provides treatment that is below the standard of care, and a patient suffers harm as a result, the patient, or the surviving family members in this instance, may be entitled to compensation from the liable party.
Here, the man presented to the hospital for hiatal hernia repair. During the surgery, complications arose. He started hemorrhaging, and ultimately suffered cardia arrest and died. The lawsuit asserts that the medical team that operated on was not qualified to perform the surgery and that they operated below the standard of care.
The widow is seeking wrongful death damages pursuant to California law.
